Does my insurance cover therapy services?

This is one of the most asked questions when people start therapy, and for good reason!

Most private insurance companies cover at least some portion of therapy services. With that said, every company and plan is different. To be sure about your specific coverage, call the number on the back of your card. Some cards have a separate “behavioral health” contact number. They will be able to better direct you to your plan’s details.

Ask your human resources department if your company offers EAP, or Employee Assistance Program, benefits. Some employers offer 4-6 free sessions to their customers. This allows you to go to therapy without the cost, and then we can evaluate if you need further sessions once your EAP is over.

I currently take United Healthcare, Kancare, Blue Cross Blue Shield out-of-network, and many EAPs (Employee Assistance Programs).
